Rondo is worth the Green!

Hello, my name is Robbie Van Nort and I am a huge Celtic Fan.After reading a blog post about Celtic’s point gaurd, Rajon Rondo, that caught my eye on celticsblog.com I began to really agree with what the author had to say on the importance of his contract with the Boston Celtics.  Most people like John Hollinger who is a statistics person at ESPN believe he is overpaid and not worth the money.  Which I think those people are all stupid because ever since Rondo was drafted in the 06-07 season by the Boston Celtics he has been a big contributor to the team’s success even though it may not be from beyond the three point line. In my opinion if your starting oint guard can provide an average of six triple-doubles a season then he is one of the elite players in the league.  In addition to his amazing career stats, Rondo was the first Celtic point guard to win a Championship for the Celtics in over a decade. Even though Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen join the team the same season they won the championship, the former starting point guard Delonte West would not have been able to do it because he did not have the younger edge on the competition that Rondo brings to the table. Being under thirty years of age and having already developed most of his skills on the court means that Rajon Rondo can only keep bringing the Celtics more and more championships and prestige. Sure more young point gaurds will enter the league, but Rondo’s speed, agility, intelligence in breaking down an entire defense, and his ability to get the ball to any player on the court will never diminish in wfficiency. Another way Rondo is more qualified to be the superstar that  he has become is that with more experience playing against the next generation of ball players he will be virtually unstoppable and will enstill fear in the defense when the ball is in his hands. If you don’t believe me, the hit television show “sports science” did an entire piece on Rajon Rondo’s ability as a point guard.  The program went into such detail as to comment and analyze how his performance is enhanced by his abnormally large hands.

  1. Hi Robbie! I definitley agree with you that Rajon Rondo is one of the most elite point guards in the league. He came onto the Celtics as a young college kid from Kentucky who started off a little scared and timid. But as he learned to develop and grow inside the Celtics organization he has become an extremely valuable player. He breaks down defenses and can create amazing offense with just one pass. I disagree that he is overpaid and overrated. He has done so much in so little time for the Celtics. Even though Ray Allen is now a member of the Miami Heat, the Celtics should still be able to have a succeful season with Rondo as thier point guard. Being a Celtics fan, I have taken the bumps and bruises and many of my favorite players have gotten traded to bigger franchises. However, I am estatic that Rondo has continued to stay with the Celtics for he has brought so much success to our team. Looking down the road, I can only see Rondo continuing to improve. With his young age, and amazing talent he will continue to do great things for the Celtics!!

  2. Robbie, Robbie, Robbie. I completely agree with you when you said he is worth the money. Rondo is one of the main reasons the Celtics were so good these past few seasons and he really does have the skill to change the way teams play against us. With the Celtics having a good big man in KG and a elite PG in Rondo i can only imagine how good we can get with the new players around them. Rondo has made many big plays for the Celtics and having him on the team takes some of the pressure off of our older guys like Pierce and Kevin. You did mention Ray in your post and I have to say that even without him we have a young skill in Avery and with Rondo attracting the opposing teams guards, Avery will get some open looks.
Rondo is definitely worth the money and I am glad that you agree.

  3. Hi Robbie I totally agree with you that Rondo is worth the money. I to am a huge Celtics fan and have loved them ever since I can remember. I am a straight up die hard fan. Over the years has progressed into one of the best point guards in the league. I also agree that he will progress over the years and I hope the Celtics keep him on the team. Over the last few seasons they were thinking of trading him and that would not be smart. Look what happened to Kendrick Perkins when he left. That was probably the worst trade the Celtics could have possible done. I do disagree with you about the whole Delonte West thing. The reason why is because the Celtics played as a team and one player does not make a ball club. In my mind the same outcome would have came out of that season regardless of who played with the Big 3. Look at the heat for instance, they don't even have a point guard but they still went all the way because they worked as a team and deserved the championship they won. Obviously Rondo played a big roll in the Championship but there is no way that he is the only point guard that would have won with them. Back then Rondo was not even considered the player he is today. Also the Celtics had a bench and that is another reason they won. They had plays like James Posey, Eddie House, and many more were that came from. I do agree with you about him being worth the money but basketball is a team sport and one player can't do it all not even Lebron James. That is why he never won with the Cavaliers.
