Australia

It has been a lifelong dream of mine to visit or live in Australia. I am drawn to it because of the beautiful beaches, the exciting outback, and the lively cities. If I ever had the chance to go there I would have plenty of things to do to keep me busy. I could go on adventures including surfing, canoeing, scuba diving, or travel through the outback. There are also many beautiful places that I would be able to see and explore. These places include the Kimberley, the Red Centre, Kangaroo Island, and the Great Barrier Reef. The Kimberley is the Western Part of Australia. While in Kimberley you could ride a camel at sunset down Broome’s Cable Beach, soar over the towers of the Bungle Bungle Ranges, cruise huge Lake Argyle, see tides taller than a building in the Buccaneer Archipelago, four wheel drive the Gibb River Road past gorges and mighty rivers, or follow the red-dirt track from Broome to the remote Dampier Peninsula. The Red Centre is in the center of the Northern Territory. While you are there you could visit Alice Springs, various national parks, and the mountain ranges and canyons. Kangaroo Island is right off the coast of southern Australia. While there you may see kangaroos, sea lions, penguins, koalas, and many other animals. You can have the opportunity to swim, snorkel, dive, or soar through the famous Great Barrier Reef. The main problem with visiting Australia is that it is a very expensive trip. For a round trip flight the lowest price I could find was $2100. The hotels in Australia cost about $150 a night for a good quality hotel. If I wanted to rent a car it would be about $140 a week for a compact vehicle. I would also need a lot of money in order to do all of the things that I want to do and for food. The total price would probably range from 3000-4000 dollars. However, that money would be worth it. Sydney, Australia was ranked number 14 in the top 25 destinations in the world by Travelers Choice.

The Great Smokies

This past summer I was introduced into the world of hiking. One brisk summer morning my dad dragged me out out bed and told me that we were going on an adventure. He told me to pack warm clothes, thick socks and good tennis shoes. I had absolutley no idea where I was going, but I had a feeling that I was going to be exerting some type of energy.  So I put on some atheltic gear and hoped into my dad's pickup. After about an hour of anxiously sitting in the truck and looking at the window, we finally pulled into a parking lot where I saw people strapping on backpacks on filling up thier water bottles. "Were going hiking!"my dad exclaimed.

We ended up summiting two mountains that day. Both Mount Khatadain and Mount Cardigan offered breathtaking views with great foliage and great memories made with my dad. Little did I know that summiting these two moutains kickstarted my addiction for hiking. I am now fully invested in hiking all different types of moutains. Before this summer a dream vacation for me would be hopping on a plane to visit sandy beaches and sip pina coladas with pink umbrellas. Now a perfect vacation would be taking a road trip to a national park and hiking all day, while enjoying nature with great friends and family.

One of the national parks that I am absoluotley dying to go to is Great Smoky Moutain National Park in Gatlinburg, Tennesee. It's the most visited National Park in the United States. There are over 1,500 bears living at the park at any given time.  The trails offer amazing views of waterfalls, winding rivers and century-old architicture.

While at the park I would make sure that I hiked Mt. Leconte.  This moutain is just shy of 6,000 feet but the views from the top are definitley worth the climb.  The trail offers many places to stay along the way including cottages with heat as well as campgrounds for tent setup and bonfires. Another great moutain to climb is Chimney Tops. This moutain offers are 360 degreee view of almost the entire national park. It is only a few miles long, but there is a somewhat steep climb in the final mile to the descent.  However if you are willing to take the challenge you will not be dissapointed.

There are many different types of accomadations if you are looking to stay in the moutains. This site offers an abundance of options for you and your family. Just pick what type of loding you would like to stay and where you want to stay,

Flying to Tennesee is relativley cheap year round. If you were to take Delta airlines these are the average prices a plane ticket would cost. If your not a plane person, taking a road trip would be a great way to not only bond with your family but also make some memorable experiences!

Bahama MaMa

Have you ever wondered how it would feel to lay down on some pearly white sand and listen to the waves while enjoying a nice pina coolata? At the Bahamas you are surrounded with clear water beaches with tropical music around. I did not get to spend to much time on the island because i was on a cruise but i still managed to have some fun while i was there. One of the things you would notice is that people drive on the opposite side. In America we drive on the Right lane but in the Bahamas they drive on the left lane Are you a dare devil? In the Bahamas para-sailing is a very big thing. Imagine yourself sight seeing 300 feet in the air looking down while you are getting dragged along by a speed boat. If Shopping is your thing then head over to the middle of the city and find yourself buying arts n crafts from the locals. The Bahamas also offers name brands like LV, Gucci, and many other stores in their main strip mall. If you are into tourism go for a walk to the Barraks Hill and also the Bahamian Musuem. If  you are not satisfies with the attractions i listed heres a link to this site were all the attractions are listed.Click Me! There are endless amounts of fun you could have at the Bahamas. The Bahamas is a third world country in a sence and could get dangerous overnight. If you are afraid of this you could stay at the beautiful Atlantis Hotel and Resort. Coming from my experience this is easily the best Resort i have ever seen! This resort has a indoor casino, aquarium, malls and also you could play with dolphins in their outdoor pool! The Cost to the Bahamas all depends on the season. Air fare changes depending on school vacation and summer and spring rates. If you were to go to the Bahamas in early Febuary the cost would be around $750 if you were to go to the Bahamas in the summer it would cost roughly $1000-$1500. I would definatly recommend going to the Bahamas in your lifetime.

Beautiful Bora Bora

A place I would either love to live in or visit would be BoraBora. I personally love the beach, warm weather, sand and clear water. Bora Bora has all that. It’s a calm and peaceful place to visit or live at. With the beautiful breeze blowing and the nice, clean water to swim in and the palm trees, who wouldn’t want to visit this tropical paradise?

The only problem for me is all the money used to actually get and stay there. The cheapest round trip flight ticket I found to get to Bora Bora was $2,787. I know for a fact I don’t have that in pocket change or even in my bank account. To actually stay at a luxury hotel, prices start at $495 per night for two people. On top of the flight tickets, I also don’t have that chunk of change. This tropical paradise doesn’t come cheap!

Bora Bora If say I did somehow sporadically come up with this money, I would love to stay in a bungalow. A bungalow in Bora Bora is a hut that stratles over their clear blue, beautiful water. It is also connected to other walkways that connect to more bungalows. They almost look like tikki huts. Stay in a bungalow just gives you more of that tropical feeling.

While I’m in my fantasy paradise, I would love to go snorkeling. Snorkeling in a tropical place like that must be amazing considering the clear blue water, you would be able to see everything. I bet you’d see a ton of amazing, beautiful fish, jellyfish, sharks and stingrays. I’d also love to go zip lining. I’ve always wanted to do it and why not do it in a tropical paradise. I bet it would be exhilarating. The view, I can almost picture it, would be breath taking. Kayaking in Bora Bora would also probably be pretty amazing. I would love to kayak on the clear, blue water. Kayak to cliffs and mountains and just enjoy the view. One other thing I’d absolutely die to see would be a sunset in Bora Bora. I can picture it being pink, blue and purple clouds. Sitting on the beautiful, warm sands with the clean water at my feet with a pina coolata in my hand admiring the wonderful sunset, that would be my vacation. One day, I’ll get my dream vacation and maybe even live there!

Money Saving Tips

Saving money is an important asset to have whether you're a teenager or an adult.  Though saving money as a college student is very important.  Students tend to spend their money on take out, books, sports equipment and etc.  Some tips for managing your cash are to look for student loans, reduce food and beverage expenses, buy used books and electronics, watch for credit card fees, car-pool, use schools meal plan, find a job and etc.
Also if you have some necessities, then you can go to stores that are less expensive for college students.  The Dollar Tree, Walmart, Marshall and even CVS are all good examples.  The Dollar Tree is perfect because everything is only a dollar.  You can get pretty much get anything you need for only one dollar and that is great for a college student.  Those are prices that you cannot beat anywhere else.  Also for most shopping stores, they have student discounts.  When I went back to school shopping, I saved a lot of money because I was able to get a student discount.  You get such a good deal and have quality products.
If you follow these tips, then you will have more money left over, you will not be asking people for cash and you will not be searching the ground for coins.  It's just the little tips that can help you out in the long run.

SHARE A TIP

One tip that I would like to share with everyone is using Amazon.com. Amazon is a website where you can buy almost anything you need from. You can pretty much say that this website is like an online Wal-Mart. Purchasing almost anything from school books to phone accessories from amazon would be really smart. The reason I say that is because just about everything on amazon is cheaper than if you were to get it at a store. For example a couple weeks ago I went to radio shack to buy a phone case for my phone, the case I wanted is called an Otter Box, and the price on the case I wanted was 40 dollars. I went on Amazon.com and found the same case that I wanted, for 6 dollars. I really recommend Amazon because I use it all the time and it still has yet to disappoint me.

Every time I order off this website I save at least 15 dollars on my purchase. Also every time I order, my package(s) arrive at a reasonable time frame. The longest I’ve waited on a package from amazon was 5 business days. I personally have never returned anything that I have obtained from amazon because there was never a need to, I also have never heard of anyone else who had to.  Another reason why I recommend amazon is because you don’t have to worry about someone taking your money while you receive nothing because it is believed to be a real safe site. They do not have a lot of cases where people have never received their product.

This is a link to the page where I looked and purchased my phone cases.

sickness to health

This blog is all about how to get better from being sick faster, easier and cheaper. I will give you tips on how to do all of those things previously listed.  The tips will help everyone from even becoming sick with the oncoming cold and flu season and as the weather becomes colder and our immune systems weaken.
The first sets of tips I have to give you is how to prevent sickness. To prevent sickness you have to take a few measures. These measures are first to drink plenty of water everyday.  The next is to eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables. The third tip is to get your flu shot its fairly simple and easy it prepares your body by putting a fake flu virus in your body so that you can get the proper antibodies already made so you can fight the flu faster.  You can also take vitamin and zinc supplements that will help you get all the disease fighting vitamins and minerals that your body needs like vitamin c. Also if you wash your hands regularly and maintain good hygiene it will be harder for you to get sick.  This blog is all about how to get better from being sick faster, easier and cheaper.             Even if you take all the steps I previously listed many of you will still get sick and once you get sick you need to know how to properly fight it. The first way is to drink plenty of water. The second step is to get plenty of sleep so you can have the energy to fight the disease and to recover. Also as previously stated if you take supplements like vitamin c it will help you become healthy faster. We all know were in college and you probably drink but when your sick you definitely not until your better, the reason for this is because it diminishes your immune system and its harder for your body to fight disease. Also avoid working out for the duration of your sickness any unnecessary use of energy is not good.
In conclusion if you follow these steps to keep you from getting sick. And when and if you do they will help you recover faster. Therefore you will save a lot of pain , time and money on all the doctor visits and medications. They will also help you become a more healthy person all together.

Consignment Shops

Do you love clothes but don't have the money to shop all the time? I have a solution for you - Consignment shopping! For the past year or two I have been into consignment shops. They are great for many things. What opened me up to consignment shopping is that my friend got a job at Victorian Rose, which is a consignment shop in town. When she got the job, me and my friends would visit her all the time. From visiting so much I learned a lot about consignment shops and the way that they are run. There are many consignment shops all over and every one of them has different ways that they go about running there store. This particular consignment shop is just for women and teens. What is so great about consignment shops is that you can not only shop there, but you can bring in your own clothes/items that you want to sell and you can make a profit! I have brought in a large amount of old clothes, shoes, purses and jewelry that I no longer wear and i've made a lot of money through consignment shops. This particular consignment shop has you bring in your items, they usually put a limit on the number of items that they can take at once, and then they price your belongings. If someone buys something of yours, you then make half of the profit of the item sold. If your items do not sell within a period of time you have the option of taken your things back or the consignment shop will donate them.

I really love the idea of consignment shops because the majority of things that I bring to them I would never wear again and I would rather make a few bucks then to just throw the things away. I hate when old clothes or shoes take up space in my room so i'm thankful that there's a consignment shop right in Dudley that I can bring my stuff to! I have been to a few other consignment shops and they all run differently. There is one that I visited called Smarty Pants and it is strictly for babies and toddlers. One particular shop that I really like is a shop in Worcester, Ma called Grime. Grime has men and women's clothing and shoes. I like this shop because it sells a lot of cheap items that are very cute and stylish for teenagers. At Grime you can buy/sell or trade your items. I don't think that a lot of people really give consignment shops a chance but if you really want to save money and like to take a chance I would definitely check out a consignment shop near you. I have found some great clothes that you would never think you would find at a consignment shop! They are great because you can shop, and make money at the same time by selling your old items. It's a win win situation! Most consignment shops take anything from clothes, to shoes, to household items and even books. I hope that my post got you interested and made you think about checking out a consignment shop. Even if the clothes aren't for you, you could always make a buck or two by getting rid of some of your unwanted things!

Blog #3

Being a college kid a lot if not all of us suffer from being basically broke.  Students think there is no way around this and spend all their time complaining that they will never have enough money.  This is caused from people spending money far to quickly on things that they may not really need.  There is several things you can do to avoid this problem.  First there is prioritizing your purchases; basically this means determining which purchases are desperately needed and those you simply just want.  Those that you need would be like food, toiletries, and other such items.  Where as wants would be like a new video game or new clothes.  If you get rid of the wants and only focus on the needed you will find you will have plenty of money to go around and then you can spend the extra money on the few wants afterwards.  The second tip is to get together with your roommate or roommates and split the expenses between all of you.  If you take all the buying on your self you will run out of money but if you split up the purchases you and your roommates will all have extra money to go around.  The third tip is that if you are going to buy something shop around online first and check out the prices and any deals that may be floating around out there.  In my experiences Amazon has always been effective in this task.  They give you the prices from all the stores around and most of the time gives you free shipping.  The fourth tip is if you are having trouble finding money there are always job opportunities out there if you look hard enough.  When applying for a job filling out the job application isn't enough.  In order to show the employer you want the job go the extra mile and a week after submitting your application call and follow up the application.  This will show the employer that you are serious about the job which may give you an edge over the other candidates.  Those are my tips and I hope they helped.  If you are looking for more I found a site that I found several useful tips on that I am going to use in the future.

An Easier Way to Travel

Every commuter knows the pains of driving to work every day. They have to endure the hours of traffic, the high gas prices, and the price of going through the tolls everyday.  The traffic can cause them to be late for work and can cause stress that is unnecessary before you start your long workday. Gas prices today are at almost four dollars a gallon and those prices can really add up especially if you have a long commute. The tolls cost about 2 dollars and if you have to pass them every day then that can generate a very big bill. However, there is a solution to all of these problems. That solution is to take the train. The train costs a mere two dollars per trip, which is incomparable to the amount of money you would spend on gas and tolls. The train eliminates the stress of sitting in traffic for hours and it is a much more effective way to make sure you arrive on time every day. The MBTA website makes it very easy to find a train that takes you to your destination and it lists times for each trip. Trains can take you anywhere from the town over to the other side of the country. By using the Amtrak train you can plan a trip that is much less costly than taking a plane. I once took a train to Florida for a family vacation. My family saved a ton of money and we didn’t even have to suffer through the trip. The trip took 24 hours but we were provided comfortable seating, a nice bed to sleep in, and 3 meals. It was much more convenient than taking a plane and it made the vacation just as fun.

Getting Enough Sleep

A lot of college students suffer from delayed sleep phase syndrome, simply by not getting enough hours of sleep at night. Students need more sleep than they think they do and their lack of sleep is the cause of many things that they do not know either. Weight gain and going blank on a test after studying all night is from lack of sleep. When you’re awake for more hours in a day, you tend to eat more especially late at night when you should be sleeping. When you don’t get enough sleep one night, the next day you need to find other sources of energy and food would be that source, meaning that you eat more of it to gain that energy you need throughout the day. Going blank on a test after being up all night studying is because you really don’t remember it because your brain didn’t have that time to rejuvenate and process what you had studied for so long. Rather than staying up all night trying to study, getting some sleep will help you more so you at least have some common sense when taking the test. Lack of sleep also affects your mood and no one wants to be around someone who is always miserable. You’re not going to make friends in school if you’re never happy. Not getting enough sleep can also affect your performance in other things, like sports. If your body did not get enough rest the night before a game, chances are you will not play your best because your body won’t have enough energy to support it. College kids are the most popular age to be deprived of sleep because, there up late on weekend nights and then up decently early for classes and then up late on week nights when they need to study. Not getting that much sleep can seriously do harm to your body and your academics. You need to schedule your time and make sure you’re getting enough sleep, because trust me, it has helped me so much in many different aspects; you’ll feel like a new person. To learn more about why getting sleep as a student will help you, check out this blog that I found really helpful. It goes into more detail of why we need it and all the good it does for you.

Eating Healthy

We are all in college and most of us want to eat healthy or try to eat healthy. These tips will help everyone stay healthy in college. The website had the nine tips down below.
  1. Eat a good breakfast- Studies show that skipping breakfast detracts from scholastic achievement. When there isn't time to sit down and enjoy your morning meal, grab a bagel, piece of fruit, and some juice.
  2. If you must eat fast foods, choose wisely- Choose pizza with half the cheese, a regular size roast beef sandwich, baked potato, or green salad with reduced calorie dressing. Limit yourself to McDonald’s, Burger King, and KFC.
  3. Keep healthy snacks on hand- Possibilities include fresh or dried fruit, pretzels, unbuttered popcorn, rice cakes, or whole wheat crackers. If you have a refrigerator, consider raw vegetables with low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese dip. Enjoy the healthy snacks and don’t go all health freak on people.
  4. Eat plenty of foods rich in calcium- People in their early twenties need to be building up stores of calcium in their bodies to prevent osteoporosis later in life. Have some yogurt for breakfast or milk and cereal. Always be sure to have some sort of calcium in your food.
  5. If you need to lose weight, do it sensibly- Starvation or diets that offer a quick fix usually backfire and are harmful. The only safe way to lose weight, feel good while doing it, and keep it off is to eat a balanced diet and exercise.
  6. Limit your sugar intake- Use sugar sparingly and consider sweetening coffee, tea, cereal, and fruit with diet sweeteners instead.
  7. Visit the dining hall salad bar- Leafy greens, raw vegetables, and fresh fruits are beneficial. Try to stay away from creamy dressings because those calories will add up. Also don’t put a lot of dressing on it. One tip is to take a little bowl of dressing and dip your fork in there for every bite. It saves you from having a piece of lettuce drenched in dressing. Choose wisely.
  8. Enjoy your food- Food can be quite delicious. Take your time and enjoy your food. It might not be the best but you can enjoy it.
  9. Drink lots of water- Staying hydrated is not an easy thing to do but it is a way to stay healthy. Always keep a water bottle with you and you will definitely drink it. Staying hydrated will keep you alert and healthy.
These tips will help any college student stay healthy. Just remember that you can enjoy some junk food once in a while. Enjoy yourself while eating healthy and it can really help.

$eth Drouin Meditation

Have you ever seen a 5-Hour energy commercial where they discuss how if you, "have that 2:30 feeling" where you're feeling tired then you should take a 5-Hour energy.

Today, there are so many methods of trying to find a boost of energy.  From caffeine to creatine, supplements become a problem.  There is an easier, cheaper, and more effective way to obtain more energy.  The art of meditation can be used to set the mind in a state that believes that the body has more energy and motivation than it truly does.
I will start with meditation.  If you come to a point during your busy day where you feel like you have no more energy, a short half hour meditation break can prove to benefit your energy level.

This video above is above a half hour long, however it is to give you an idea of the meditation process. Meditation is extremely easy to learn.  All you need is a quiet place and the strong desire to meditate and find your inner peace.
Here at Nichols College, I actually find a half hour - full hour a day for time dedicated to meditation.  Most of the time, I walk to the turf field around 10pm because nobody is around, and I can meditate while looking at the stars, and it is extremely peaceful.  Meditation has many benefits that are immediate.
Check Out These Mediation Facts:

The great part about meditation is that it reduces blood pressure and gives the person a clearer perception of the world.  This alone allows for more energy throughout the because there is less worrisome thoughts going through the mind.
I strongly recommend giving meditation a shot.  For some people it works wonders (such as myself) while for others they feel that caffeine is their only answer for obtaining more energy.  Even if meditation doesn't work for you, there are many other alternatives to caffeine and all of the harmful substances in the long run.  Do your research.

Couponing

In the past couple years, the economy has started to plummet and people are either not making the same amount of money that they were or aren't making any money at all because there aren't any jobs out there for them. Due to this, people have been trying to cut back but most people just don’t know where to find the right utilities. Well, there are two main sites that I know about off the top of my head that both my mom and I use. The first one is called Groupon.com. This site isn't like any other that you've seen. One person to review it said, " i love this website! it's such a great concept and i look forward to seeing what the daily deal is everyday" (http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.groupon.com). What you do is you sign up for your free account and that automatically gives you 10 free Groupon dollars to use. Then, what you do is you look at what they have going on for great deals and you pretty much buy gift certificates for much cheaper than you actually would in the store or restaurant. For example, there is a go kart place in Dudley and there is a coupon on there that you only have to pay $20 for $40 worth of entertainment. There are so many more great deals from vacationing to spa days to just regular shopping. Another great site to go onto is Couponsuzy.com. This site has many, many, many different coupons for you to choose from. And that is all it is. It’s like a huge online catalog for coupons that are all free for you to take! You just pick which section you’d like to look in or look at all of them at once. Then, you check off which coupons you would actually use or think you would use and at the end, you can print them all off. It’s a great website especially for those who don’t get the newspaper, like us college students. We can go look for coupons online instead of searching through the newspaper and trying to find which one you really want and then trying to cut it out but worrying if there’s another one on the other side that you would also like but don’t want to cut in half. This just solves all of your troubles and makes it easier. These are two helpful tips on what you can do to save money.

Saving Money

Everyone tries to save money but many people don't really know how to do it the right way. Trust me I didn't know how to save money until some of my friends helped me out. Every time we would go to a fast food place to eat I would always get a meal and drink, which always cost me a lot more money then all my other friends. Then I figured out to buy things off the dollar menu. You get a lot things for less off the dollar menu. Also don't waste your money on a drink thats just worthless. Ask for a water cup they have to give it to you and it is free. Once you get the water cup you just go to the fountain drink machine and get whatever drink you want, but there is one rule to this. DON'T GET CAUGHT. The food places get mad when you use the drinks for anything other then water.

Also other ways to help you save money is to shop at Marshalls and TJ Maxx. Stores like those help you save so much money. The places have stylish clothes for such a great price. I really like to go to those stores because they have really cheap sports jerseys. Also go to stores that have great sales. Some stores have Buy One Get One Free sales you should make sure you go there when they have them. One of the top stores that I like to shop at is LIDS and they have a Buy One Get One Half Off all year around and thats when I usually get my Hats.

Finally other great places to shop at are Ebay and Amazon. Sometimes on Ebay the bids get over priced but you could basically get anything for a lot cheaper then you can from buying it from a store. Also Amazon has great prices. I bought a lot of my school books off of Amazon and i saved so much money then going to the book store and paying for it. Going out Black Friday shopping and Cyber Monday s shopping saves a great amount of money. My family goes crazy when they go Black Friday shopping and I'm getting into the trend of going Black Friday shopping. These are some great tips on shopping and use them they help a lot.

Budgeting Money!

When I was five years old, I opened a savings account and since then I have continued to put money in it! After all the years of it building up, I now use that money for things I need to pay for. I have learned that is crucial to keep track of your money. What your taking out and what your putting in. No matter what type of account it is, it is good to know what is going on with it at all times. You should know your priorities over your wants. You need to make sure you have money for your bills, before going out and spending it on things you don’t need. If you do not watch this from the beginning this is how people acquire debt. Which can be very bad, and hard to turn around.  I was taught at a young age to manage this, by my mother. If you want to make a big purchase you should make sure you have enough money, and enough money to pay whatever else needs to be paid that week or month.
This woman Suze Orman, She has her own T.V show and people call into it and ask her financial advice. They tell her all about their income and what they spend, what they have saved, and what they want. Suze then, either denies or approves them. It also teaches you a lot, about what you should be doing. If you start financing your money now, then you’ll be able to pay off your student loan, and wont have such bad debt, that youll be able to get approved for things when you older. Such as houses, marriage, cars, etc.

While I’m going to school, I go home every other weekend to work, and during the week I have a work-study position. I call alumni for donations. I have these two jobs so I can pay for my car insurance, and gas. Also I have to pay for my cell phone. While I have these jobs, I’m saving as much as I can, so it will be beneficial in the future. If we all do these little things now, it gives you a better future with money!
