The Hunger Games

On March 23, 2012 the first of the trilogy, The Hunger Games, was released in theaters. For those people who do not know any background on this movie, as a result of what was believed to be a revolt on the government the Capitol declared there be twelve different districts, and every year a male and female must be picked to be a tribute in what is know as the 'Hunger Games'.

Most of the movie is focused on district twelve where Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Milark lived. At the beginning of the movie Katniss volunteered as tribute after younger sister, Primrose Everdeen, was picked to be a tribute in the 'Hunger Games'. At the end after much battle, the Capitol decided to name two tributes victorious as long as they were from the same district. The movie ends off with Katniss and Peeta as victors and heading back to District 12.

Personally, I enjoyed the movie very much. The mixture of action, adventure and romance made the movie hard to dislike. Once the movie began, it was almost impossible to not be drawn in or be distracted. The special effects and soundtrack also added an element of intensity and excitement.

The relationship between the two main characters was captivating and made it easy to relate to their situation. Although the book was insanely better than the movie, the movie also received a high number in ratings. The movie stayed pretty true to the book, but the scenes that they did change were minimally different. For example, at one point in the movie Katniss receives a pin from her sister, when in the book she got it from a girl named Madge. Also, some of the scenes between Katniss and Peeta were different. At the end of the movie, Peeta claims he doesn't want to forget but in the book he is distraught when finding out Katniss faked her affection for him throughout the games. Although both changes were minimal, they contradicted what Collins wrote in her book. Whether you are a fan of the book or movie, it is impossible to dislike The Hunger Games.

  1. I went to go see The Hunger Games in theatres within the first week it was out. Everyone said it was a chick flick, but like you said it was full of action. What man does not like action in a movie? A little romance in a movie makes it even better in my opinion. However, The Hunger Games had romance from the very beginning. It truly shaped the movie into a masterpiece. I would not change a thing about the movie other than I wish they showed how more of the people died during the competition. I think your description of the motion picture was spot on in every way. I have not read the book, but I may in order to see the differences between it and the movie that you spoke of. Finally I would like to say that you chose a great topic for your blog.

  2. I never saw The Hunger Games, but you have convinced to maybe take a closer look at it. I know that so many of my friends and my sister were talking about how amazing it was, however, at the time I never cared enough to go see it. I actually did a little research myself, and I found that the movie got excellent reviews.
